I am a fully qualified Secondary English teacher with twelve years of classroom experience and three years of tutoring experience. I work in a tutoring centre and online. I have an excellent working relationship with students and their parents and carers. I provide regular reports of student progress because I appreciate that tutoring is an investment, albeit a very valuable one.
I tutor students of all abilities in Key Stage 3 and 4 (11-16). I have in-depth knowledge of the requirements for English Language and English Literature GCSE and Functional Skills. When teaching Key Stage 3 students, I support current learning whilst developing key skills for success at GCSE and beyond.
I specialise in supporting SEND students, particularly those who experience barriers to their learning from conditions such as Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia. I also specialise in working with students who suffer from anxiety, whatever the cause. I am understanding, patient and knowledgeable about barriers to learning.
To provide the best support to all students, I studied for and obtained a Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties. Awareness of SpLDs informs my tutoring on a day-to-day basis and I am passionate about helping all students succeed.
I am a Shakespeare specialist and have studied the works and background of Shakespeare’s plays in detail. I am aware of the challenges that students face when studying Shakespeare and I overcome these with fun and engaging lessons.
My tutoring style is based on the needs of the individual learner. I am patient and encourage all learners to master one skill before moving onto the next.
Lesson content may include completing practice exam papers, homework support, re-capping themes in texts or revising grammar. I encourage confidence and enjoyment of learning whilst helping students manage the demands of deadlines and exams.
