Anna

My name is Anna and I am a very experienced teacher of History, English and Philosophy through the secondary key stages, from year 7 through to year 13. Before becoming a teacher, I qualified as a barrister, having done law as my first degree, later becoming a researcher and policy advisor for the National Association of Citizens’ Advice Bureau. I also worked in the field of conflict resolution for an international charity.

For the last eighteen years I have worked as a teacher and examiner in History, English and Philosophy mainly, but I have also taught Sociology and Government and Politics to A level. I am especially interested in how students learn and enjoy helping students develop skills that will help them to succeed as a student in all their subjects as well as the specific topics that we are looking at together, for example, I am particularly interested in how students develop long-term memory for skills and knowledge and am developing my resources around the latest research in this area. As well as a teacher, I am a student and currently am advancing my professional qualifications with a Master’s degree in English Language Teaching; remaining intellectually curious and demonstrating that learning is a lifelong commitment is extremely important to me. I have also worked extensively as an examiner in my three main subject areas, both at GCSE and A level, and enjoy creating resources for publication. I am currently commissioned to write a study guide for GCSE English on the text “An Inspector Calls”

As well as teaching across the key stages, I have a great deal of experience in coaching for Oxbridge entry and LNAT, and have been lead teacher for able and talented provision in two schools. I have undertaken a great deal of training personally in this field and have experience in helping schools across South Leicestershire in developing stretch and challenge in the classroom, for all students. This is important to me, that learning is inclusive and is tailored to each individual, helping students achieve their personal goals and enjoying the process of learning alongside my students.
